Me!

Back before social media was a thing, someone said it was vain to have a page with my pictures on. But now we have Twitter and Facebook and Instagram so who's laughing now? Now I guess the question is more: why do you still have a personal website?  Well at least it gives me a place to back up my photos that I actually have some control over.

I'm more comfortable behind the lens than in front, but a while back I started trying to keep a current picture on my site.  Before social media it was a lot harder to know what people looked like, which was a problem if you ever wanted to meet in real life.  Or just were really, really nosey.

Spent Father's Day taking Dad around Attenborough. Lots of young birds - Reed Warblers and Whitethroats, Tree Sparrows, Great Tits, Coot, Moorhen, Mute Swan and Mallard all got photographed.

There were also a large number of Banded Demoiselle dragonfly-type creatures around; enough that we saw a sparrow catch (and drop) one, one got caught and eaten by a spider, and we found just the wings of another on the path. Mating Ladybirds and a bunch of Peacock Butterfly caterpillars, and some strange cricket-type critters, were amongst the other insects we saw, not counting all the flies and midges.

Just a walk on a sunny day, and everywhere around were young birds...

Mostly just pictures of Great Crested Grebe as one was very accommodating, fishing just under the bridge near the car park. With it being so close and spending so long fishing, I hoped I'd get at least one decent shot!

Rough and ready, unedited set of pics from Andy's Loukes' stag do. There might be some dodgy quality ones, as I just uploaded as quickly as possible.

Fox

For some time now my parents have spotted foxes in their suburban garden, and so while I'm staying with them I've been putting food out to try to see them for myself. Sure enough, we have what appears to be a breeding pair venturing in at around the same time every night, just as it's getting dark. There definitely seems to be a male and female, often coming into the garden separately but also occasionally at the same time. However, we haven't seen any young yet, which may be due to the trickiness of getting through our fence (the hole is quite high up).

These foxes have been seen jumping from a standing start up on to an ivy-covered chickenwire fence, and balancing on the top before jumping down. One of them also appears to sleep on the roof of our shed when the weather's sunny, which would require some ivy-climbing prowess.

Chichester and Fishbourne

This is my attempt at some solo birdwatching, which is to say, going out on a cold, windy day, take a lot of photographs, and hope that I can make them out when I'm back somewhere warm. A couple of short movies I took on the day didn't make the cut - I took them more to get the sounds of the Redshank warning calls, but all I got was the sound of the wind.

To cut to the chase, there's a lot of Redshank here, along with Dunlin, Oystercatcher, and Grey Plover. Oh, and the usual Mute Swan, gulls etc.
