St. George's Day, Nottingham Castle, 2007

I think this may have been the first big St. George's Day festivals in Nottingham after people realised that more was made of the special days from other countries (e.g. St. Patrick's Day) while our own kind of went unnoticed.

Apparently the Nottingham one is now one of the biggest.

British Museum 2

After hearing of the Cutting Edge Japanese Swords exhibition at the British Museum, Andy Loukes and I just had to meet up with Jasper Wallace to gawp at around 100 swords, daggers, and other Japanese works of art. After that we didn't have much time to visit the rest of the museum, so it seemed appropriate to go to the Asian department in the time we had left.

Chichester Snow

During the day we laughed at the suggestion that it might snow, sitting in the warm office looking out at sunny skies. Even getting into the car to go home, it was cold but clear (if a little dark at 6pm). On the five minute journey to my flat however, we went from clear, to thundery, to the first stinging flakes of ice as I put my key into the door. By the time I'd got rid of coat, bag and keys there was a tapping sound at the window, and outside was covered in a thin layer of white.

I put some food in the microwave, but decided that grabbing my camera and taking some photos was more appealing that microwaved pizza. Before it got too bad...

Dumfries

Wanting to try out my new camera properly, I volunteered to travel from the south coast of England up to Dumfries in Scotland - a round trip of around 16 hours - just to install one computer. So, the plan was two days of travelling, an hour or so of installing, and the best part of a day photographing. However, as the server ended up taking from 10am to about 4:30pm due to network problems, the following were taken during an extended lunch break while I was trying to figure out what the hell was going wrong...

As the new camera has not only a 10x optical zoom (the same as a good pair of binoculars, and better than my 8x25 binoculars I carry in my backpack) but also lots of new settings for taking landscapes, portraits, action shots, night shots etc., it might look like there are a number of near-duplicate pictures as I play around with the settings. There are also a lot of photographs of birds on a river...

Norfolk 2003

The old version of the website broke galleries into separate pages and directories, and required an introduction page just to show up in the list.  This is no longer the case, but to avoid dead search engine links here's a quick overview of some of the photos in the Norfolk 2003 collection!

There are 14 galleries in this section.

Just a few pics in and around Chichester.  Plenty of the Cathedral including trying to find the best setting to capture the sunset.

I'm standing on London Bridge, but the picture is of Tower Bridge. Although, typing "London Bridge" into Google maps shows the one in Arizona, which legend has it was bought mistaken for Tower Bridge...

West Dean Chilli Festival, August 2001

Feature image

Gallery published by Richard Goodwin

This is where it all started - my first chilli plant (a small twilight) was bought here! Currently (2007) I have 9 plants on the windowsill, five of which overwintered from last year; and seeds for 8 new varieties for next year, when I hope to have a greenhouse...
